Preventing Homelessness

Community Crossroads Center is not just an organization to aid the homeless population, we are also in the business of preventing homelessness. If we can stop homelessness before it starts, then our community won't rely as much on emergency shelters like the CCC.One of our newest programs highlights these efforts. The TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) or 200% program aims to provide assistance to families with children under the age of 18 years old. The mission of the 200% program is to assist families in acquiring and maintaining self-sufficiency and also to increase the family’s ability to improve housing/financial stability. By providing 100% of these needs for a limited time, we hope to generate 200% more stability for families in the long-term. One big part of the program is housing assistance which can include:

  • first month’s rent
  • security deposit
  • utilities deposit, etc.

Although this assistance program is not a guarantee, it tries to give younger and less fortunate families a chance for some self-sufficiency and stability for a brief period. Some families might never be given the chance for this and a boost like this would be a great learning experience to help prevent future homelessness. Nobody plans on becoming part of the homeless community, and If you may know a family on the edge please do not hesitate to reach out. This great program requires a referral, therefore if you know anyone in this area give them a chance to better themselves and their loved ones.
