Homelessness Solutions: A Community Forum
Friends of the Shelter Logo, published as part of "Solving Homelessness: A Community Forum"

On the 16th of March, we held our 2nd community forum at Community Crossroads Center. The intent of the forum was to let the community know what we have accomplished over the past year as well as our vision for the future. The Center also challenged the community to help find a solution to the “emergency assistance” that is needed within the community and to build an organized, systematic approach to help those that are in need. The Center is currently an emergency assistance shelter, meaning we work as a short-term waypoint for individuals without a home. The problems that lead to homelessness, however, are problems in our community: unemployment, cost-of-living increases, domestic violence, disability, and how we care for our elderly.A task force was established and is currently actively seeking a solution. Community input is a vital part of who we are at the Center and where we go in the future. This is why it is greatly appreciated when members of the community help, make suggestions, and invest in the Center to continue its success and livelihood. By gaining knowledge from our community as well as donors and volunteers we can find new solutions to problems that will mean fewer people to requiring emergency assistance.By keeping this mutual win-win relationship with the community everyone benefits and the differences within the community become connections rather than divisions. Community participation and feedback is how we survive and thrive.
