The Honor Card: Preventing Homelessness Through Holiday Giving

As October comes to a close that means one thing -- the holidays are right around the corner. No matter where you live or what your religious affiliation is, this time of year is the time of the year when families come together. As time is spent with the people you love, it is now more than ever, an important time to think of the homeless population right outside of your door.

Local North Carolina artist William Mangum has for years celebrated the natural beauty of his home state through paintings of landscapes and sceneries highlighting urban, rural, and some of the most beloved scenery in North Carolina. While getting recognized both Nationally and Internationally for his works of art, Mr. Mangum had a memorable friendship between himself and a local homeless man, who he later took in and cared for till his death. This relationship later influenced the artist to launch an annual campaign, The Honor Card, promoting a single painting intended to raise awareness and funds for the needy across the state. Since the campaign's launch in 1988, it has raised over five million dollars in donations. The Honor Card program is a campaign that launches every year prior to the holidays to help raise awareness and the funds necessary to aid the homeless. With a minimum donation of five dollars per card, individuals will receive an honor card intended to be sent to family, friends, and loved ones to signify that they are representing a donation to help the local outreach program directly helping their local homeless community. The Community Crossroads Center is a participating agency and would love to help distribute Honor Cards and raise funds for their agency to help aid the homeless community in the Greenville area.
