Common holiday traditions involve spending time with the people you love, exchanging gifts and have amazing home-cooked meals. Yet, not every individual in America is fortunate to even have a home to bundle up in during the holidays. According to the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, about 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness each year. Therefore, these individuals have to sleep and spend their holidays in their car, on the streets, in a motel room, or a community shelter. Although it is true that holidays are for spending time with family and friends, it’s also about giving to others.
Since 1988, more than 500,000 Honor Cards have been purchased and sent to friends and family members to help fight homelessness through the annual honor card program. These honor cards are for a small donation of $5, which are beautiful works of art by Mr. William Mangun, a very generous artist which began this program over three decades ago in order to reach out to the homeless community that you can purchase on our website. This program has a very successful partnership with the Community Crossroads Center in Greenville, NC and many other shelters across North Carolina. We encourage you to come out and support the annual honor program, purchase some beautiful art, and be the difference maker in the lives of homeless families throughout your community.
Your support and presence at the unveiling of this year’s Honor Card will help enable us to continue our mission of “Serving the homeless and those at risk of homelessness by providing safe housing, and assisting them in developing a long term plan that leads to self-sufficiency.” Programs such as the Annual Honor Card program keep this mission alive and enable us to contribute to a cause greater than ourselves here at Community Crossroad. During this season of giving we will be hosting a raffle at the Honor Card event. The raffle will be for a framed print of the beautiful Honor Card. The raffle tickets will be $5 each and the drawing will be at the end of the event on the 13th of November, 2018 from 5:30 - 7pm at the Villedge. Please join us! Hope to see you there!
