To name one of the many things the community has done to help, we have recently had volunteers come into the shelter to provide haircuts for the homeless. Not only are they providing these haircuts at no cost, but they are also giving our residents the confidence needed in order to maintain as normal of a lifestyle as possible.By providing free haircuts for the homeless, our residents can save the money they would be spending on haircuts and are able to spend it on more important things, such as providing for their families. This also allows them to have a clean cut appearance that will be great for the job interviews they line up. The residents will be able to have an equal opportunity with those interviewing for the same job by not having to worry about their appearance. It is the small things such as this, that could lead to our residents finding a job that will allow them to get out of their homeless situation and provide for themselves and their families. We are always in need of volunteers for different activities within the shelter. Our biggest need at the time is help with our breakfast program. These volunteers would need to be able to help cook the breakfast and supervise the residents during the cleanup process. In addition to direct help during breakfast, we are also looking for people to help purchase the food items and organize the weekly food schedule for the residents. This is just one of the many opportunities for volunteering we have within the shelter. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact us, stop by our office at 207 Manhattan Street or download a volunteer application, page three of this document must be completed by the Greenville Police Department, and send it to: kmury@greenvillecommunityshelter.org.
