Community Crossroads Center’s 2020 Giving Tuesday Campaign
Community Crossroads Center (formerly Greenville Community Shelter) was established in January of 1988. We are a “night only” emergency shelter and the only homeless shelter in Pitt County, NC. For 32 years, through all sorts of weather, natural disasters, financial turmoil, tough times and even a pandemic, the doors to Community Crossroads Center have always remained open.
Our mission is to “serve the homeless and those at risk of homelessness by providing safe housing and assisting them in developing a long-term plan that leads to self-sufficiency.” We are a non-profit agency that relies on grants, fundraising and donations to ensure that we are able to provide for the homeless in Greenville and Pitt County. In 2019, we provided almost 30,000 nights of sleep for 629 individuals including men, women, children, and veterans. It costs about $25 a night per resident. Only with your support, will we remain open and serving the Greenville and Pitt County area.
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes “Giving Tuesday,” a global day dedicated to giving back. The day was created in 2012 in response to the spike in consumerism following Thanksgiving. #GivingTuesday marks the beginning of the charitable season, encouraging people to give to organizations, charities, and initiatives that are doing good in their communities.
Greenville and Pitt County gives more to CCC every year on Giving Tuesday. Thank you! As a result, Giving Tuesday has become our main operational fundraiser. Giving Tuesday has become even more important to the sustainability of CCC’s operations in COVID times during which we cannot have traditional social gatherings. This year our goal is to raise $40,000 during the Giving Tuesday campaign.
That said, donations received through December 8, 2020 count toward the campaign goal. We are excited to announce that Pecheles Automotive, the law firm of Ward & Smith and an Anonymous donor have pledged a total of $15,000 in matching funds to help us serve the homeless. The challenge is for the community to match and exceed the $15,000 offered by these passionate donors. Every dollar donated between December 1, 2020 and December 8, 2020, up to $15,000, will be matched by these donors. A $25 donation turns into $50. A $250 donation turns into $500. A $500 donation turns into $1000!
Because of the community’s financial generosity, we have been able to keep our doors open for more than 12,000 continuous nights and counting. We could not keep our doors open without you. We need your support. Your donations are our lifeblood.
COVID has impacted most every aspect of life and Community Crossroads Center’s operations are no different. We recognize COVID has presented financial challenges for many, so we are extra grateful for everyone’s support during these times. We depend on your financial support. Pandemic times are tough for everyone, but especially so for the most vulnerable, those who have nowhere else to turn, and that is who we serve.
As soon as eviction moratoriums are lifted, many folks will experience homelessness for the first time. We must prepare now and need your financial support to do so. Please come alongside CCC to support our mission and residents by donating generously on Giving Tuesday. CCC is counting on our local community to dig deep and to give generously as you have always done in the past.
